Must Love Dogs
No, this post is not about the movie with the same name, rather its about the business of pet sitting.
Pet sitting is a great business. My wife pet sits for a few families and absolutely loves it. But as the title of this post states, you must love dogs (and other animals) to be in this business.
Why? Because unlike some “jobs” you can do without loving it, the pets can really pick up on your attitude about them. Plus, these little creatures rely upon your help and company. Because you are pet sitting, they will probably be left alone for long hours and the last thing they need is someone that’s not interested in helping them.

Thanks so much for the link to my new blog. I couldn’t agree with you more as far as the right attitude for this job. Any animals (but especially dogs) will feed off the emotional state of the human. It’s not uncommon for a dog that was calm and pleasant when meeting with the owner present will suddenly feel different about you when you arrive alone to their territory trying to fill in for their human. It can be like being on a bomb squad but instead of explosions you have teeth. You simply must be able to “defuse” any issues. Like any serious business undertaking definitely consider the pros and cons of the work fully before diving in.
