Wear lyrics with Lyric Culture
Inspiration for a business idea can come as you’re seemingly wasting time. That’s what happened to singer/songwriter Hanna Rochelle-Schmieder. According to LA Weekly, during a break in recording, Hanna doodled song lyrics on her jeans.
As she did this, she thought that “no one had ever marketed lyrics on clothes before.”
So, she met with music publisher and acquired the rights to put lyrics on clothes. She said it was surprisingly easy to strike the deals. [Note, it probably helped that she was in the business and knew who to contact.] She then started the Lyric Culture clothing line.
Hanna’s story should inspire the entrepreneurs out there. You never know where your next great business idea will come from. It might just come while you are doing something to pass the time.
Legal Note: It’s nice to see that Hanna acquired a license to use the lyrics on her clothing line. Some entrepreneurs may assume (wrongly) that they are free to put the lyrics on t-shirts without first seeking a license. So, for you entrepreneurs, before you just do, check to see what legal barriers exist and properly address those barriers. Otherwise, you might just kill your business just as it’s taking off.
